This blog is no longer powered by coal, oil, gas or nuclear. It is now fully powered by wind, water and solar power. This is because 1&1 webhosting (who provide the hosting for this blog) have now switched to a renewable energy supplier.
According to their news posting they have 40,000 servers consuming 50 and 60 Gigawatts per hour (GWh). Additionally the data centre only loses 20% of its heat (which is apparently very good) and can use outside air to cool the servers when the temperature goes below 10 degrees celcius.

Nice. I might even change over to their hosting options. I can’t get enough of going green. It’s nice to see that companies are making the leap of faith and taking the greater alternative. Here at NORA I have been able to research way to go green with my existing home. So far, I have switched out my windows, and just recently I started using biodegradable oil in my heating unit. It costs about the same as standard heating oil, but helps out the environment by reducing carbon emissions, producing NO greenhouse gases and it keeps us all happy. haha. That’s the most important part of all.
Check out this link I found while searching the net for greener alternatives. It has some pretty interesting stuff on there.
